A Brief History Of Touch Screen Technology
A touch screen or multi touch screen is simply an assembly of an output and input device. The touch screen is generally layered directly on top of a normal computer screen of an information handling system. While the system is normally a touch-screen laptop, tablet or smartphone, the display is most often LCD, LED, or AMOLED screen. Touch screen technology has been around for years but has only recently started to find widespread use in modern consumer electronics. This is because the vast majority of touch screen technologies are based on resistive or capacitive interaction. This means that when a user taps on the screen it reacts by creating a measurable electric impulse rather than a natural touch.
In order to understand how a touch screen works you need to understand how human touch works. When we use our hands to touch things such as a keyboard or mouse we use our fingertips to create a measurable amount of electric charge. This charge is transferred to the finger and so the finger then transfers this electrical charge to the computer screen. When the user then presses the screen with their finger in the electrical signal from the finger is transformed into a pixel that is then displayed on the screen.
Modern touch screens incorporate what are called acoustic wave transducers. These acoustic wave transducers send signals to the finger, which then registers the touch with the display. Acoustic wave transducers are used to send a digital signal which is then displayed on the touch screen in the form of color. The majority of modern touch screens use resistive touch screen technologies but some devices use capacitive technologies.
Touch screen protectors allow you to protect your screen and prevent accidental damage. There are many different types of touch screens and there are several different manufacturers such as capacitance, resistive and ultrasonic. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages. Many people prefer to buy touch screens from reputable companies with a long track record of providing consumers with quality products that perform as promised.
Some people prefer to buy touch screens that use a touch sensitive layer made out of something like LucidTouch. This layer is sensitive enough to detect any motions that can damage the sensitive display layer. Unfortunately, LucidTouch doesn’t work on very sensitive surfaces like vinyl and glass. Unfortunately, for laptop owners, most laptop brands do not use tempered glass in their laptops.
Resistive touch screen technology is much less expensive than capacitive screen technology, so it is widely used in tablet and portable computing devices. The main disadvantage of assistive technology is that all the finger action has to be managed by the computer CPU. With capacitive technology the CPU can handle all the finger actions without having to handle the finger actions. This results in a more fluid operation and less error than when using assistive technologies.
A common type of touch screen in a tablet or laptop computer uses a physical pointing device or a pointer. With the advent of longer touch screen resolutions over the years a common question has been about whether a pointing device is really necessary and if one is even necessary at all. The answer is “yes”. A pointing device allows the user to point at things on the display device with a finger or stylus and this works just as well as a mouse pointing device does.
Some manufacturers have gone so far as to include a small LED behind the display unit to help alleviate some of the battery consumption problems associated with capacitive touch screens. capacitive touch screens have come a long way since their introduction into the world of touch-screen technology. With the advancement of technology, they are now being used in many different types of electronic devices.
